The arts of cinema and poetry can hardly be dissociated. Films that have been inspired by poems, poems that have served as texts for films, poets who have taken their ideas from cinema, or filmmakers who have anchored their deepest formula in the poetic word — these are just some of the facets of this interdisciplinary relationship. Between visual, rhythmic and formal power, the two arts do not escape frequent creative comparisons. “A film is never really good unless the camera is an eye in the head of a poet,” said Orson Welles. And in the words of poets, what can a film's uniqueness consist of? For the poetry exhibition Sobre um filme, sobre um poema (About a film, about a poem), we invited six poets with different relationships with cinema to write about a film of their choice, based on shots, images, characters, dialogues or even viewing experiences. These works by Gabriela do Amaral, Hugo Miguel Santos, Miguel Manso, Ondjaki, Raquel Lima and Regina Guimarães will be on show in Foyer 1.
