Queer Porto is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, occupying the screens of Batalha, Passos Manuel and Casa Comum. In addition to the Official Competition and the Casa Comum Prize for Portuguese short films, the Batalha hosts an out-of-competition programme that explores the problems associated with the idea of a safe space for queer people and communities, as well as debates around the writing of Isabelle Stengers, Adrienne Rich and Dionne Brand. The festival also hosts an extended programme focusing on “queer resistance” in conflict zones in Eastern Europe and the Middle East, focusing on the reality experienced in countries such as Kosovo, Palestine, Cyprus and Ukraine. Queer Porto will also celebrate key figures in queer culture, such as Genesis P-Orridge or Bruce LaBruce, here in dialogue with a young director, Mathieu Morel, in the evenings at Passos Manuel.
