Porto de Dança: A Brief History of Club Culture in the City (1974–2023) was born out of the desire to gather, document and disseminate knowledge about an after-hours Porto. Presented as part of the themed programme After Hours: Clubbing on Film, this graphic piece visually maps the past and present of the city's dance music culture, namely the venues, parties, DJs and promoters, their relationships and ramifications. Spanning the period between the 1970s and the present, Porto de Dança is a journey through this nocturnal cultural ecosystem that has always maintained a close relationship with emerging artistic movements, and which has left its mark on personal and collective memories. In a gesture of illustration and nostalgia, we will also present memorabilia from private collectors — flyers, posters and tickets that were part of the history of Porto’s nightlife. A project by Maria Ferreira, with graphic creation by Nuno Maio, research by Maria Ferreira and Rodrigo Affreixo, and support by Gustavo Pereira.
