For over 10 years, Marta Simões has been one of the most exciting names in cinematography in Portugal.

A graduate in Film from ESTC, and with a master’s in Visual Cultures from FCSH–UNL, in 2014 she was selected for Berlinale Talents, the Berlin film festival’s talent programme.
Before that, during her film degree, she had already met and worked with the filmmaker Jorge Jácome — in a pairing that endures to this day. Shrooms, Flores and Super Natural are some of the fruits of this partnership, which have been screened at festivals in Berlin, San Sebastián, Toronto and New York, among others.

Over the past few years, she has established a prolific synergy with Isadora Neves Marques, taking the role of Director of Photography on Vampires in Space (which represented Portugal at the Venice Biennale in 2022), Becoming Male in the Middle Ages (which, also in 2022, received the Ammodo Tiger Short prize in Rotterdam) and My Senses Are All I Have to Offer (selected for Critics’ Week at Cannes in 2024).

In this screening we present a selection of Marta Simões’s work as Director of Photography.
