Mónica de Miranda is a Portuguese visual artist, filmmaker and researcher from the Angolan diaspora whose work explores the relationship between art, politics, memory and identity. Her interdisciplinary practice includes drawing, installation, photography, film and sound, navigating between documentary and fiction. Focussed on resistance, memory and ecologies of care, Mónica de Miranda's research pays special attention to the dynamics of colonialism and personal geographies. She has a degree in Visual Arts from Camberwell College of Arts and a PhD from Middlesex University. Her work has been recognised through various nominations, exhibitions and participation in important international biennials, having represented Portugal at the Venice Biennale with the Greenhouse project. Mónica de Miranda is also the co-founder of Hangar, an art and research centre in Lisbon. As part of the artist's exhibition, Profundidade de Campo (Depth of Field), on display until June at the Galeria Municipal do Porto and the School of Arts of the Catholic University of Porto, Batalha is dedicating to her a focus that includes a film screening, a talk and the launch of a catalogue on her work.
