In this cycle of talks, Batalha invites diverse speakers to explain their relationship to the different forms of producing cinema, through the experiences and films that have marked their personal and professional lives.

The opening edition of My Own History of Film is dedicated to researchers and writers working in different domains of contemporary thought — such as gender studies, Black cultural studies, the politics of culture, post-colonialism, rhetoric and philosophy — and who combine these practices with the making of films.

Manthia Diawara (Mali), Byung-Chul Han (South Korea) and Trinh T. Minh-ha (Vietnam) are our first guests for this cycle. Each will present national premieres of films of their own and give talks on themes connected to that work.
