On 7 October 2023, the massacre in Israel shocked the world. Days later, Israel invaded the Gaza Strip. But this story didn’t begin here. The occupation of Palestine has been going on for over a century, from the Ottoman Empire, through the British occupation and finally the Israeli occupation. With the creation of the State of Israel, the violence grew: thousands of people were driven from their homes, murdered and humiliated. Today, Palestine is a mosaic of enclaves, with no economic viability. Israel perpetuates an apartheid regime, imposing separate laws for Jews, Israelis and religious minorities, and expanding settlements in the West Bank. The Gaza Strip — a small area with more than two million inhabitants — is an open-air prison. Since October 2023, violence has escalated and more than 35,000 people have died. In the 11th edition of MICAR, SOS Racismo is denouncing this and other occupations, promoting resistance and liberation, and claiming the right to exist.
