With a desire to rekindle a connection going back to the 1940s, Batalha has invited Cineclube do Porto to revive the matinée format that for decades was a mainstay at the cinema. This new programme interprets the history and role of the Cineclube for the city and country from its foundation through to today.
Every two weeks on Sundays, we will dedicate a session to a key moment in the life and operation of the oldest film club in Portugal. These screenings are introduced by members of the Cineclube who will reveal the relevance of each chosen film to the history of the institution.
Between September and December, the Cineclube do Porto will be showing some of the films that were part of its programme, highlighting different cinematographic genres. The programme begins with a series of works by the great masters of cinema, centred on criminal narratives. After, the musical format is revived, with two classics that exemplify the best of the genre produced in the United States, but also in Europe.
