With a desire to rekindle a connection going back to the 40s, Batalha has invited Cineclube do Porto to revive the matinée format that for decades was a mainstay at the cinema. This new programme interprets the history and role of the Cineclube for the city and country from its foundation through to today. Each session will be dedicated to a key moment in the life and operation of the oldest film club in Portugal, with the screening of films — classic, archive and contemporary — whose relevance and quality make them worth seeing again on the big screen.

Cineclube do Porto’s Matinées take place every two weeks on Sundays.

In June, Cineclube Matinées will take a cue from the New Encounters in Portuguese Cinema Week, presenting some of the films that were part of the original 1967 event, and that helped define the Cinema Novo movement. The following month, the programming is dedicated to the first women directors that Cineclube featured.
