Batalha is one of the venues hosting the seventh edition of the International Conference KISMIF — DIY Cultures, Democracy and Creative Participation, an initiative that brings together an international community of researchers, artists and activists focussed on alternative music-art and do-it-yourself cultures. KISMIF focuses on cultural practices that are often opposed to more conventional, mass-produced and commodified forms, and on counter-hegemonic ideologies around aesthetic and lifestyle politics that are typically embodied in DIY culture. In addition to the plenary sessions "Resistance, gender, DIY and creativity" and "Dissidence, archives, cinema and civic participation", and a book presentation, Batalha will host a film screening with the presence of filmmaker and artist Andrea Luka Zimmerman.
