Part of SPECTRAL, a European partnership between six independent analogue film laboratories, the programme Challenging the Cinema Room involves the occupation of the cinema auditorium by a broad group of artists and directors, with the aim of collectively investigating the qualities, possibilities and limitations of conventional cinema screens. Over the course of a day, Laboratório da Torre invites artists who push the experimental limits of cinematic media exhibit the results of their research. A moment in which the research will take shape in various formats, such as readings, talks, performances, film and/or sound installations. In 2023, Challenging the Cinema Room will feature the performance Intra Protocol, by Sally Golding in duo with Matt Spendlove (Spatial) and the presentation of the results of the artistic residency Primal Light #3, with works by Juliana Julieta, Leonor Guerra, Miguel Tavares, and Mónica Baptista.
