The practice of artist Ana Elena Tejera — between cinema and performance, archive film restoration and installation — is closely connected to the particularities of her country of origin, Panama. The nature and history of Panama and its human complexity, rich in mysticism, rituals, traditions and cultures of resistance, form the conceptual base of her work, making it both political and intimate.
Batalha invited the artist to develop an installation project in collaboration with Solar — Galeria de Arte Cinemática. The installation includes previously unseen film and photographs produced in Panama between 2022 and 2023.
Los sucesos que llevaron a su olvido explores the memories of a fictional character and their visceral relationship with the land. Panamanian soldiers, under the influence of US military ideology, seek to return to their primary states linked to their geographical space, where there is no distinction between human and non-human.
