Complementing our retrospective, which is full of films marked by introversion and the absence of dialogue, we present as an installation the film Afternoon — a public exercise in friendship in which Tsai Ming-Liang features in the company of his actor-muse, Lee Kang-Sheng. With the cameras now pointing at the director himself, we follow a lively conversation shot in only four takes, covering the trivial and the intimate, and addressing the themes of journeys, anxieties, and moral questions. Perhaps even more interesting than the topics are the interactions that drive them.
