Pedro Almodóvar is recognised as one of the most decorated and influential directors in contemporary cinema. Over the 45 years of his career, he has put together a filmography that combines visual exuberance, emotional narratives and memorable characters. With an unmistakeable style, his films explore themes of sexuality, identity, human relationships and the power of women, often tempered by irreverent humour and melodrama. Among his many awards he can count two Oscars, five Goyas, five Baftas, four Césars and, more recently, the Donostia honorary award at the San Sebastián International Film Festival, presented on the occasion of his 75th birthday.
This retrospective, devised with support from El Deseo, the production company belonging to brothers Agustín and Pedro Almodóvar, begins with two screenings dedicated to the actor Marisa Paredes, one of the most emblematic figures among Almodóvar’s recurring cast, who died in December 2024. The retrospective opens with All about my mother, winner of the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film and the Best Director award at Cannes. Next is High heels, which marked the first time Marisa Paredes appeared in a lead role in one of Almodóvar’s films.
Until 9 July, spanning 45 years of cinema and 23 feature films, audiences are invited to (re)discover all of Almodóvar’s films since 1980, including rarely seen works such as Labyrinth of passion, alongside a selection of his short films.
