Hsiao Kang walks the streets of Taipei selling watches. Just days after the death of his father, he meets Shiang-Chyi, a young woman about to leave for Paris. He feels an immediate connection with her and even sells her his own watch. From then on, he changes every watch he encounters in Taipei to Paris time. This film once again speaks to the pursuit of love in adverse conditions — a recurring theme in Tsai Ming-Liang’s filmography.
