Boss is a former trapeze artist who in the past was seriously injured in a fall, and now presents, with his wife and son, a small show. However, family harmony collapses with the arrival of beautiful orphan Berta-Marie, whom Boss insists be taken in by the family and with whom he develops a new trapeze act. For her he leaves everything behind. Strongly censored in the USA for dealing with the theme of betrayal, this is a film highly recognised for its innovative, dynamic and expressive camera work, by the director of photography Karl Freund.
