In her first and only solo feature film, multidisciplinary artist Niki de Saint Phalle invites us to enter her own fairytale — a feminist exploration of sexual desire that unfolds like a dream or a poem. Nele, a princess, is magically transformed into an adult, discovering a new, frightening and surreal world. A Dream Longer Than the Night is considered a rare treasure of 1970s French avant-garde cinema, in which the worlds of childhood and sex collide. The version screened at Batalha is a 4K restoration by the Niki Charitable Art Foundation, using the original 16mm camera and sound negatives.
