In the middle of the 1980s, an elderly couple decides to travel to Lisbon to visit their second son and the widow of their first son, killed during the war. Time in the city passes slowly, as if all its inhabitants were suffering from a kind of lethargy. Interspersed with this present day, a group of soldiers wanders timidly through the dense forests of Africa during the Colonial War. A film composed of absences, Um Adeus Português embodied the passivity of Portuguese society as it awaited a new future.
Screening followed by talk with João Botelho.
