Directed for television, Two Friends follows the end of a friendship between two Australian teenagers. Told in reverse, the film captures — with a humour and sensitivity that would become characteristic of Campion’s work — the dazzling beginning of their relationship, followed by a painful dissolution before they go their separate ways. With a screenplay by the acclaimed Australian author Helen Garner, Two Friends was shown at Cannes Festival in 1986, in the Un Certain Regard section.
Screening presented by Deb Verhoeven (writer).
