An anti-war film — that’s how Petrović describes Tri, a bleak and poetic work that explores the absurdity and bestiality of war, in which death becomes the real protagonist. Composed of three stories taking place at the start, middle and end of the Second World War, this feature-length film offers three perspectives on the conflict through the lens of a man who embodies the role of witness, victim and, finally, perpetrator. Nominated for the Oscar for Best Foreign Film, Tri was the first Yugoslavian film to be shown in the USA, in 1966 — and has been chosen by André Gil Mata to feature in his retrospective.
