Returning from a journey, Shiang-Chyi, a young woman, arrives in Taipei and discovers that the place where she arranged to meet Hsiao Kang (ex-watch seller, now an actor in pornographic films) has been destroyed, and that the city is suffering from a severe water shortage. Television broadcasts instruct the population to save water and drink watermelon juice. Lonely, parched and tormented by the heat and their desire, the two meet and romance blooms. Causing much controversy on its release due to its sex scenes, the film was awarded the Critics’ Prize (FIPRESCI) at the Berlin Film Festival.
