Years have gone by since Ingrid (Julianne Moore), a successful novelist, and Martha (Tilda Swinton), a war journalist, drifted apart. On learning of Martha's cancer diagnosis, Ingrid decides to seek her out, and two rekindle the friendship they once shared. In a delicate and emotional encounter, Martha makes a request that could jeopardise their bond: that Ingrid be an accomplice in her euthanasia. The Room Next Door, Almodóvar's first film entirely in English, was applauded for 17 minutes after its premiere in Venice, where it won the Golden Lion.
