Since the mine in Durham was closed down, life has become difficult for the inhabitants of that small community, who now struggle with poverty, isolation and a lack of future prospects. It’s in this context that the government decides to send a group of Syrian war refugees to this place — something that displeases some locals, consumed by the frustration of their own lives, prejudice and fear of the unknown. It’s up to TJ Ballantyne, a local pub owner, to resist the economic crisis and, at the same time, build bridges between the communities living in the same town.
