Restored in 2023 and screened at the Il Cinema Ritrovato Festival, The Dupes is one of the first Arab films to address the Palestinian question. Filmed in black and white, this chilling film traces the fates of three different men united by dispossession, desperation and the hope for a better future. Following an extensive restoration led by The Film Foundation, watched over by Martin Scorsese, and in collaboration with Bologna Cinemateca and the family of the director, Tewfik Saleh, we can now rediscover this imposing work as it was first seen at Cannes Festival in 1972.
