With a small film crew, Denise Garcia Bergt attended a series of baile funk parties over the course of a year, documenting the performances and daily routines of the funk carioca artists leading this musical and social phenomenon. Marked by frenetic energy, loops and lyrics with sexual and violent connotations, this musical genre emerged in the favelas and poor neighbourhoods of Rio de Janeiro — but has since made its way into other social circles. Sou Feia Mas Tô na Moda records the trajectory of this subgenre of Brazilian funk, focussing on its female stars.
