Ricky and Abby live in Newcastle with their two children. Since the financial crisis of 2008, they have been struggling with debt. Ricky does odd jobs, Abby works as a carer for the elderly. They dream of independence and a home of their own and, faced with an apparently attractive offer, Ricky makes a risky decision: to buy a van and work for himself making home deliveries. However, with no steady income, he finds himself working almost constantly. The couple’s excessive fatigue and anxiety quickly jeopardise the family’s cohesion, trapped in the vicious circle of labour exploitation.
The 3 Nov screening will be followed by a talk with Rebecca O'Brien (producer of the film) and Gareth Evans (curator).
