In 1989, filmmaker Tom Joslin picks up a camera and films with love, humour and tenderness the final months of daily life with his partner, Mark Massi, after both have been diagnosed with AIDS. Following Joslin’s own death, a friend of the couple, Peter Friedman, creates a film-diary from the VHS tapes. The homemade texture of the video, evocative of home movies, captures the intimacy of a couple that were similar to many others in the 80s and 90s, reflecting a community hit not only by a virus but also by the homophobia of national and international politics.
