Part of the generation of filmmakers that gave rise to the New Galician Cinema, in Samsara Lois Patiño offers an immersive sensory experience, inspired by the vision of the afterlife described in the Tibetan Book of the Dead. At his home in Laos, a teenage monk prepares an elderly woman for the journey that awaits her. As the character transitions to the afterlife, the film undergoes its own transformation, working with light and sound to invent a cinema between life and death. Samsara was awarded the Special Jury Prize in the Encounters section of the Berlinale.
