Odete is a supermarket worker suffering from mental disturbances. Abandoned by her boyfriend, she believes she is pregnant by her homosexual neighbour, Pedro, who she barely knows and who ends up dying in a car accident. To the surprise and indignation of Rui, Pedro’s real boyfriend, Odete approaches the “mother-in-law” and performs the role of a widow in a succession of behaviours and rituals full of physical, psychological and symbolic violence. Little by little, Odete and Rui become closer, together trying to overcome the pain of loss.
