Among other significant shifts, Cinema de Abril — produced in the years immediately following the revolution — marked a turning point in cinematic production, emphasising collective authorship and shared, collaborative processes under a cooperative model. For this screening, we present films produced by collectives in the cooperatives most active during the revolutionary period (Cinequipa, Cinequanon, Grupo Zero, Unidade de Produção N.º 1 do IPC, Célula de Cinema do PCP), which document and reflect on this complex process, and by another more recent animation collective (Filmógrafo), which revisits the “long night of fascism”. This is a special Seleção Nacional screening to celebrate the 50th anniversary of 25 April 1974.
Session followed by a talk with Acácio de Almeida (Grupo Zero). Free entrance upon ticket pickup on the same day. Limited to two tickets per person.
