Glasgwegian artist, filmmaker and musician, Luke Fowler develops a practice "at the same time, singular and collaborative, poetic and political, structural and documentary, archival and deeply human" (María Palacios Cruz). His work explores the limits and conventions of biographical and documentary film, focussing on the stories of underground thinkers and peripheral communities. If, on the one hand, his first films were centered on music and musicians, his more recent works sound itself becomes the main concern.
Luke Fowler was the first winner of the Jarman Award, in 2008, and in the following year presented at Serpentine Gallery his first big exhibition in the United Kingdom. In 2012, he was nominated for the Turner Award.
In the context of the themed cycle Oasis, Batalha invited the filmmaker for an artistic residence with the purpose of direction of a film centered around the São João festivities. The work presented in installation is the result of this invitation.
