In No Exit, Jacqueline Audry adapts the famous theatre play written by Jean-Paul Sartre to film. The story follows three strangers who, after death, are condemned to share a hotel room for eternity. In that claustrophobic space, with no windows, mirrors or exits, individual conflicts and frustrations teach the protagonists that true condemnation does not come from physical punishment, but from forced coexistence. Marked by existentialist thinking, the work immortalised the famous phrase: ‘Hell is other people.’
