Suspecting that his wife (Charlotte Rampling) is having an extramarital affair, a British diplomat in France (Anthony Higgins) hires a private detective to investigate the situation. The evidence is clear: the woman has rented a flat and her lover is a pet chimpanzee called Max. Perplexed, the husband insists that Max move into the luxurious flat the couple share with their young son and a maid. Often compared to Buñuel’s baffling comedies, Max, Mon Amour is an astute and surreal satire of human relationships and social conventions.
