One of the most prolific sound directors of the new generation of Portuguese cinema, Marcelo Tavares was born in Porto and grew up in Aveiro. He attended the Video and Documentary Film course at the Abrantes School of Technology and graduated in Cinema with a specialisation in Sound at the School of Theatre and Cinema (ESTC), after which he completed a master's degree at the Musical Arts at the School of Social Sciences and Humanities.

It was at ESTC that he was part of the team of several school films, directed by filmmakers with whom he continues to work today, such as Helena Estrela, Tomás Paula Marques, Clara Jost and Duarte Coimbra. He works with the artists Diana Policarpo and Alice dos Reis, and regularly collaborates with the sound studio Kino Sound Studio, where he assists in the sound post-production of several Portuguese feature films and series.

As a sound director, he has recently signed films by Diogo Baldaia, Jorge Jácome, Joana Cunha Ferreira and Inês Lima. Moved by the artistic and personal affinities he has built up, we often find him as an actor in the works of his director friends. We present a chronologically representative selection of his work, including a school short film he made, already surrounded by those with whom he is happy to listen and work.
