After Franco's death, De la Iglesia directed, what we can consider, the first Spanish commercial film to openly depict homosexuality, both in its plot and visuals. The film follows a wealthy, closeted gay banker who falls in love with a straight younger man. This landmark film broke new ground in Spanish cinema, exploring themes of love, desire, and sexuality. It gained a cult following internationally and is considered a pivotal moment in Spanish film history, paving the way for representations of marginalized and controversial subjects.
