In this film based on the novel of the same name by Georges Simenon, with Simone Signoret and Alain Delon in the leading roles, we follow the path of Jean, who has just spent five years in prison. He seeks refuge with the widow Couderc, an older country woman who offers him work on her farm. The widow silently falls in love with the young man, but the relationship between the two is disturbed by the arrival of Félicie, who awakens Jean’s desire and Couderc’s jealousy. The film was shown by Cineclube do Porto on 28 April 1974.
