Competing in the official selection at Venice Festival in 1983, Jogo de Mão is composed of four stories sketched by a marionette show. The second feature film by Monique Rutler merges various underworlds, inhabited by intellectuals, fado singers and students, to narrate day-to-day situations, which, for being so mundane, pass us by in our daily routines. Free of formalisms and heavy with irony and sarcasm, the film is described by the director as a meditation, in the tone of a dramatic comedy, on the figure of the “Iberian macho”, whose peak expression is found in the Portuguese “machista”.
