Three days in the life of Jeanne Dielman, a woman and mother — it is on this premise that Chantal Akerman constructs her film, inspired by the experiences of her mother Natalia, exiled in Brussels after the Second World War. Played brilliantly by actress, director and activist Delphine Seyrig, Jeanne Dielman reveals the daily routines, silence, work and confinement necessary for the protagonist’s survival. In 2022, it was considered the best film of all time in the voting that Sight & Sound magazine publishes every decade.
