At the age of 16, Marusya decides that, by the end of the year, she will add herself to the statistics of suicides in Russia. However, when she meets her boyfriend, Kimi, she abandons the idea. Together, the two spend 12 years filming the euphoria, anxiety and misery of a generation silenced by the oppressive Russian government. When Kimi’s addiction threatens to consume him forever, Marusya’s camera becomes the final chance to save his soul. How to Save a Dead Friend was given a special mention at Visions du Réel festival in 2022.
