On a dark and rainy night in Taipei, a young man takes refuge from the storm in an old cinema. It is the auditorium’s final screening before it shuts its doors for good. A sparse audience, the few remaining workers and, probably, one or two ghosts watch the martial arts classic Dragon Inn (1966), by King Hu — each of them haunted by the memories and desires evoked by the images on the screen. This nostalgic, passionate ode to the power of cinema won the Critics’ Prize (FIPRESCI) at the Venice Film Festival.
