In this vibrant Technicolour comedy — starring Jean Gabin (and with a brief appearance by Edith Piaf) — Renoir tells the story of the opening of the iconic Moulin Rouge. In 1890, Danglard, a shrewd businessman and mentor to the stars of the Paris stage, discovers a young, naive washerwoman dancing in a nightclub. Inspired by her talent, he tries to revive the long-forgotten cancan in a show that Paris will never forget. French Cancan is a frenetic journey through the cabarets and Parisian society of the 19th century.
