Daïga, a young Lithuanian woman, arrives in Paris looking for acting work. Theo, a musician, leads a difficult life as an immigrant. And his brother, Camille, is a mysterious performer working in gay bars. The three are living in the French capital when a series of violent killings cause uproar. Loosely inspired by the crimes of Thierry Paulin, J’ai pas sommeil is a meditation on isolation, alienation and the myriad problems of modern life. This was the first feature-length film on which Denis collaborated with Agnès Godard, director of photography for the majority of her subsequent work.
