Loosely based on Stefan Zweig's novel Angst, Fear plunges into the depths of the human psyche, exploring guilt, manipulation and, above all, fear — an invisible force that moulds every moment of the narrative. In Munich in the 1950s, Irene (Ingrid Bergman), the wife of a prestigious scientist (Mathias Wieman), has an extramarital affair that she hides from her husband, living trapped between anxiety and remorse. When Johanna, her lover's jealous ex-girlfriend, discovers this secret, she resorts to ruthless blackmail, turning Irene's psychological torment into a suffocating spiral in which every choice seems to lead to a dead end.
