Adapted from the novel of the same name, published in 1954 by Agustina Bessa-Luís, A Sibila marks the centenary of the writer’s birth. Presented as a preview at Batalha, this is the first feature film by Eduardo Brito who, in addition to his career as a director, has worked as a screenwriter in films by Paulo Abreu, Manuel Mozos and Rodrigo Areias. The film centres on the trajectory, intrigues and conspiracies of two generations of the Teixeira family, between the end of the 19th and mid 20th centuries. As in the original literary work, the narrative is here told in flashback by Germa from Casa da Vessada, a property in northern Portugal she inherited from her aunt — Joaquina Augusta Teixeira, the sybil.
Film followed by talk with Eduardo Brito, Mónica Baldaque, Paulo Branco and moderated by Isabel Ponce de Leão — with Portuguese Sign Language.
