The threat of nuclear winter seen from the other side of the Iron Curtain, Letters from a Dead Man paints a bleak portrait of life in the aftermath of the apocalypse. We follow the wanderings of a survivor of the nuclear explosions, who seeks refuge in a central bunker but is not allowed to enter due to his age. The film’s unusual sepia tones, depicting settings with details of postmodernist expressiveness, endow it with a desolate and alien texture.
