Dah, from Benin, and Jocelyn, from the Caribbean, earn money by holding illegal cockfights in a restaurant in the suburbs of Paris. When the restaurant owner forces the duo to make the fights more violent, Jocelyn resists. The film features Isaach de Bankolé, who had already appeared in Denis’s debut, and Alex Descas, who would go on to be a familiar face in the director’s subsequent films. S’en fout la mort appropriates the codes of film noir to address the violence of human relationships, and in particular the implosion of the Black individual in a post-colonial context marked by racial tension and isolation.
