In Andalucia, at a farmhouse built for the rearing of bulls, we witness a love affair complicated by class differences. The farmer’s beautiful daughter, Maria, known in the area by the nickname “A Gata”, is admired by many men — including Joseli, who develops an obsession for the young woman. However, A Gata is in love with Juan, a cocky, handsome worker who dreams of becoming a bullfighter. This Technicolor melodrama, which explores themes of desire and ambition in a rural setting, was a milestone for being the first Spanish film screened in CinemaScope.
