The cinema debut of Jean-Jacques Beineix, one of the leading names in Cinéma du Look, Diva won the César for Best Feature Film and became an international success. The film follows a Parisian postman obsessed with soprano Cynthia Hawkins, whose voice has never been recorded. He secretly manages to record a recital by the diva, but the tape is exchanged for another containing compromising information, putting the young man's life at risk and launching him into the dangerous Parisian underworld. Driven by hyper-stylised visual exuberance, this cult film includes one of the most iconic chase scenes in cinema history.
