In the 1970s, Yang’s parents, staunch activists of North Korea’s Communist Party who had emigrated to Japan, sent their three children to North Korea as part of a repatriation campaign. As the only daughter, Yang Yong-hi remained with her parents in Japan. Thirty years later, the filmmaker records her visits to her relatives and offers us a portrait of a geographically and politically fragmented domestic space. A touching reflection on the notions of family, diaspora and migration and the limits of ideology.
