Winner of the Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival, Days marks the return of Tsai Ming-Liang to fiction film after a hiatus of seven years, and makes tangible the filmmaker’s effort to “de-industrialise the process” of directing films. Made with a small crew and budget, the film follows two characters: Kang wanders through a lonely urban environment and seeks treatment in Hong Kong for a chronic disease; Non, a young Laotian immigrant, works in Bangkok. The two end up meeting each other in a moment that is curative, tender and sexually liberating.
